When it opened in the spring of 2012, the Conkling Street tavern was only using its first floor, a cheerful and cozy space that feels both sophisticated and neighborly, the traditional Baltimore corner bar re-imagined with handsome reclaimed materials and hand-wrought fixtures. It's a swell space, the kind of spot where you feel instantly comfortable even if it can be loud. About nine months in, the restaurant opened up the second floor of the corner property, which sits just on the dividing line between Canton and Brewers Hill. Those in search of esoteric beers should visit, which mostly features beers made by the excellent Stillwater Artisanal Ales. Don’t worry if you don’t get to try every option — the upstairs bottle shop sells beers to go, too.
